What is an Indefinite Adjective?
Indefinite adjectives are types of adjectives that describe nouns in non-specific ways.
Examples of Indefinite Adjectives
Some examples of indefinite adjectives would be the following:
Any flavor of pie will be perfect for the barbecue.
Most runners on the track team also play another sport.
Several brands of ice cream are on sale today.
Using Indefinite Adjectives in Your Writing
Using indefinite adjectives in your writing adds generality when you don’t want or need to be specific about something.
Notice how indefinite adjectives like the following ones can achieve that objective: all, another, any, both, each, either, few, many, more, most, neither, other, several, some, such.
Some students actually enjoy the basket-weaving class.
Any teacher who is willing to work on weekends should be commended.
Few principals are as engaged with the students as our principal.
Keep in mind that these are indefinite adjectives and that they describe a noun in the sentence. You don’t want to confuse them with indefinite pronouns which replace a noun in the sentence.
